In the case of an acquisition, none of the companies involved in the transaction close down. Rather, the buying company acquires a majority stake in the selling company. The legal entity of both companies, however, remains the same. The acquiring company gains control of the acquired company by purchasing controlling shares and then continues the company with new management.
